I have had this experience with kids: if they wanted something that I didn’t want them to have, I simply told them no and would not give it to them no matter how much of a tantrum they threw. Sorry, friend, that will not work with a child suffering from autism. The child would sound off on and on and on, until you feel like you are going out of your mind. Eventually, you will give the child what he or she wants. Thats something about an autistic child, it is hard to deny them anything. I had no idea what autism was all about until I saw a number of movies on the subject back in the 90s. First there was this movie by Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, where Hoffman was the sick one; and then there was also this movie I believe it was Mercury Rising, by Bruce Willis and some other young chap at the time. It distressed me to think that people suffered that much; I really do wish something could be done for them. Thankfully, with the level of advancement in medical technology, a solution might not be too far off. You will do well to have the level of intelligence of your kid tested once they have been diagnosed to suffer from autism. They often behave in a way different from other people talk about an understatement! but it by no means is a conclusion on how bright they might be. At least with information on that, you may have a clue as to what to expect of your child, and what not to. A lot of folks, even parents, find it frustrating to be around autistic children. Often they have them committed to a facility where they take care of kids like that. Whereas this is of some import, I personally believe it to be better if you will bring your kid home and keep them around people they love. True they may not be able to respond, but everyone needs the love. You can have the professional help come around from time to time.
